Integral blinds are one such option and in this article, we give you some tips and advice about integral blinds.
What are integral blinds?
Integral blinds are horizontal blinds that are fitted between the two panes of glass on a double glazed unit. These are hermetically sealed with the glass.
Unlike traditional blinds they cannot be touched from the outside.
Integral blinds you will find cost more than traditional fabric, slatted or after market blinds. However having worked with these sophisticated blinds for many years we consider these an investment and over the longer term can be more cost effective.
The way integral blinds are manufactured is a sophisticated one. Just like normal double glazed units, integral blinds are made under controlled conditions. In this way it ensures blinds in glass are totally sealed. This not only enables your glass to come with its 5 or 10 year guarantee but also to enable the double glazed units to have their required U Values and to ensure the blinds are reliable into the future.
How integral blinds open and close.
Integral blinds can open, close and tilt in several ways. You have the choice of cords, just like traditional blinds. Another more popular method is magnets. These are situated either side of the glass and enable by a simple up and down operation the opening and closing. The second magnet enables the blinds to tilt as required.
A more sophisticated option is electric opening, solar controlled opening and even remote control opening. There are many options available.
Integral blinds can even be fitted to existing windows and doors.
If you have existing windows or bifolding doors and wish to upgrade to integral blinds this is possible.
However you won’t be able to simply put blinds in your existing glass. As the blinds are part of the sealed unit you will need to change the glass as well.
Assuming you have reasonably modern double glazing with 24mm or 28mm double glazed units, there is no reason why these can’t be replaced with new glass having blinds.

Integral glass blinds are generally available in the same wide colour choice as powder coated windows and doors. This means there should be no problem in colour matching to your new or even old doors and windows.
