A detached family home in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, with a purpose-built swimming pool enclosure at the rear of the property. Our customer needed a full set of Alitherm 800 windows and doors for the pool building, along with replacement windows to the front room and rear dining area of the main house.
Rather than a fully glazed pool enclosure with opening roof panels and floor-to-ceiling glass, this homeowner chose a more conventional approach. Standard aluminium flush casement windows and residential-style doors were fitted throughout the pool building, providing good natural light and ventilation while keeping the building practical and visually consistent with the main house.
Smarts Aluminium 800 Flush Casement Windows
We fitted Smarts Alitherm 800 series flush casement windows throughout the pool enclosure. These are a modern flush sash design, sitting neatly within the frame for a clean, contemporary appearance. The windows are powder coated in a light grey finish that works well against the brick elevations and complements the surrounding garden.
The Alitherm 800 is a versatile aluminium window system suitable for homes, extensions, garden rooms and swimming pool enclosures. It can be configured as a traditional casement window with styling inspired by timber products, or as a contemporary flush sash design for modern properties.
All frames are highly insulated, extruded and colour coated by Smart Systems at their advanced facility in Yatton Bristol and the windows expertly crafted by our trusted manufacturing partners.

The frames use Smart’s polyamide thermal break technology, creating a barrier between cold air outside and warm air inside. This reduces heat loss through the frame and helps keep rooms comfortable throughout the year. The Alitherm 800 achieves a Window Energy Rating of A and a U value of 1.3W/m²K when used with the correct glass unit. The system is fully Document L compliant and British Standard Kitemarked.
Aluminium windows and doors are particularly well suited to swimming pool buildings because they are highly resistant to moisture, condensation and temperature changes. Unlike timber, aluminium will not warp, swell or deteriorate in humid environments, making it a practical long term solution for pool enclosures and wellness spaces. Routine cleaning is required and marine grade coatings help resist the chlorine environment.
A wide choice of standard and non-standard colours is available, including metallic, dual colour, textured and anodised effect finishes. For this project, a light grey powder coated finish was chosen to suit the property.

All Alitherm 800 windows and doors in this project are glazed with 28mm sealed units, featuring a soft coat low emissivity coating, warm edge spacer bars and argon gas fill. This combination provides good thermal performance, helping to retain heat within the pool enclosure and reduce energy costs associated with heating a swimming pool area.
Doors throughout the project have toughened safety glass as standard. All windows have secure locking handles and trickle ventilation to meet Building Regulations. Colour matched 150mm aluminium cills are fitted to every window, maintaining the light grey theme across the full installation.
Windows and doors for this Haywards Heath Pool Enclosure.
The main window assemblies consist of four-pane units, giving a wide expanse of glass across each elevation. This lets plenty of natural light into the pool area and provides clear views of the garden. Each unit has colour matched 150mm aluminium cills, keeping the finished look consistent and directing rainwater away from the brickwork.
On the side elevations, smaller two-pane windows are fitted in the same light grey finish. These follow the same flush casement design and provide additional light and ventilation to the building. Here the glass chosen is acid etched to provide privacy to the sauna and dressing area.
For the wet areas within the pool enclosure, including the bathroom and changing areas, we fitted windows with obscure frosted glass. These allow natural light in while maintaining privacy. One single top-hung opener with a black locking handle sits within the tiled bathroom wall, and a larger two-pane frosted window serves the changing area.
Additional Windows to the Main House
As well as the pool enclosure glazing, we also fitted aluminium flush casement windows to the front room and rear dining area of the main house. These match the same Smarts Alitherm 800 windows system and light grey finish, giving a consistent appearance across the property.

The above windows and doors are an excellent example of how one aluminium window system can work across different parts of a home, from the main living areas through to outbuildings and specialist structures.
Aluminium Residential Door
The pool enclosure door is a classic residential-style aluminium door in the same light grey powder coated finish. The upper section is fully glazed with toughened safety glass, while the lower section has solid colour matched aluminium panels. This half-glazed design is practical for a pool building, offering a clear view through the top half while the solid panels at the bottom provide a more robust finish at floor level.
To the side of the doors are two matching outward opening flag windows, providing ventilation when required. Black handles and hinges give a subtle contrast against the light grey frame. Multipoint locking and a secure handle keep the pool enclosure locked when not in use.
